Topic tags/keywords: bandsaw question jet I’ve been watching for a 14” bandsaw on CL and I need help to decide. I’ve called and said I’ll buy it but I want another pair of eyes please. Seller says it’s a JBS-14W but I can’t find anything by that number. Is it a Jet? I think it’s a fine deal but I don’t know much about Jet bandsaws. It has a Kreg fence so I am assuming it’s a decent saw – whatcha think? |

Doesn’t look anything like a jet bandsaw to me. I have a Jet 14 inch with the riser block and the Kreg fence. The fence is nice. Just not convinced that it is a Jet. |

The Kreg fence and wheel base are worth >$130 new. If you can see it in person and make sure it operates, I would buy it. BJ |

It looks like a porter cable to me, but that is just a guess. |

If you look at the pic in the lower left side it sez Tool shop, and not even the paint color of a jet -- Knowledge and experience equals Wisdom, Michael Frankowski |

Looks like a pretty generic asian clone of the Delta… could have been sold by Jet or any number of other names.. Cheers, -- Brad in FL - In Dog I trust... everything else is questionable |

Where in which picture? I can’t see any words in the lower left of either picture of the 14” BS. Someone stuck a bunch of dumb stickers on it but I can’t see anything else that isn’t totally blurred out. |

I think that is an early Jet JBS-14. Jet quality wasn’t all that great back then. The silver/bluish plate would say Jet. It is a Taiwanese Delta clone. With the fence and if in good shape may be worth the asking price. Hey I found a prior post that features a similar bandsaw. -- Tom - Measure twice cut once. Then measure again. Curse. Fudge. |

I believe that is a “Jet Band Saw, Model JBS-14MW” they did have that color. I personally wouldnt give any more than $150 provided everything worked as intended and it ran with no vibrations. |

I’ve see a couple early Jet bandsaws that looked like that one. But as mentioned, about a dozen distributors sold saws exactly like that one, under several brand names. |

The problem with 93 1/2” bandsaws is even the cheap ones tend to hold their value, warts and all. The one thing I was able to sell off at a pretty good margin, (considering I owned it for 12 years), was my generic Asian clone bandsaw. I think it was a Reliant. And it didn’t even have a fence. I even removed the upper ball bearing unit and put the cheap clone guide blocks back on that originally came with it. Considering you are getting a Kreg fence with the deal, I’d think $200 or even $225, or someone will take it from under you. Go get it. -- Tsunami Guitars and Custom Woodworking, Cleveland, TN |

I was the first one to call and have set a time to get it and I’ll call today before starting out just to confirm the time with the seller. Yep, stuff seems to go VERY quickly in my area. I had pretty much resigned myself to having to buy new because no good deals last long enough to get there. Seems like there is always some priced from about $350 to $450 that sit on CL for a month. But anything below $200 (usually without a fence) last a day or so. This one looks like it’s been taken care of, at least it’s not all covered with rust from the photos. Is there anything in particular I should look for besides seeing it run? |

I called to confirm my pickup time and asked specifically if it had any broken parts and seller told me he had to replace the tensioner about 7 months ago and bought the replacement part new from Jet. I have read that the tensioner is one of the parts that tends to break eventually on these. He confirms the saw runs smoothly and so I’m making the drive. If it indeed runs smoothly when I get there then I’ll buy it. |
