Topic tags/keywords: kuster kuster woodworking ultra sand conveyor belt

Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a Kuster Woodworking Ultra Sand 36” dual head thickness sander. This company has been out of business for quite awhile, I think since the late 80’s. It is a solid machine but the feed conveyor belt had broke on it with the previous owner and he was unable to find a replacement so he was just manually pushing the stock thru. I measured what the belt should be and it is about 36” x 72”, with the length give or take an inch because of available adjustment. Does anyone know of any belts this size or where I could have a custom one made? I haven’t had much luck searching the WWW.

Thanks for any input

I believe 2sand makes custom belts.

Thanks everyone, 2sand didn’t pan out and Apache never got back to me. I’ll try the new recommendations.

This is the kind of belt you want. Meant to convey wood through sanders.

#7 posted 04-04-2016 01:48 PM is exactly what I wanted, but the minimum pulley diameter recommended for their belts is 3” and my pulleys are 2”. I contacted industrial abrasives and they were happy to make the belt that I needed. They make it out of aluminum oxide backed 100 or 120 grit sandpaper with a butt joint that they state has minimal height difference. We’ll see, they state that they are 7-10 days out from the finished product and shipping. I also order a roll of 4”x25 yards by 120grit sand paper from them too. The custom belt cost was $40. Excited to see it, hopefully it works. I’ll update when I get it.

And it looks like it’ll be a big undertaking to get the belt on. I’ll have to remove all of drums and guide rollers above to get the table off, slide the belt on (hopefuly) and then reassemble.

Thanks for all of the help.

Works like a champ. I occasionally have to help turn the belt by hand, I could probably tighten up the belt but I’m a little hesitant to put that much tension on it and risk ripping it. I hope this forum helps someone else someday.

First, thanks so much for making this thread! I Just picked up the same sander and I’m looking into replacing the belt with a poly belt. If your open to chatting with me, I’d be interested to hear how you went about taking the machine apart to change the belt. Im hoping your experience may save me some time. Thanks!
