I’ve been lugging this around for years – I inherited it from my mother.
But what IS it? This isn’t a test, I really don’t know.

The “base” is is about 70cm square (28”), height about 85cm (24”)

I can’t venture a guess. But I’d say this: “What do you use it for?” Then that’s what it is!

It is unique, I hope someone gives you a better explanation than I did!

The floral area, is it a cushion or wallpapered board?

If it’s a cushion, I’m going with kneeler or kid’s writing desk

If it’s board then it should be a display area

And finally, it could be a piece of ‘frankenfurniture’ cut-down from two chairs to serve another purpose.

I believe it to be an antique hemming platform for a seamtress to hem dresses while the wearer stands on the platform

I’m guessing it may be a shoe shiners platform?

My first thought was the same as khop’s, but I think Dan’s idea about the hemming platform makes the most sense.
