Making Wheels:
I use a hole cutter on the drill press to cut the outer diameter for the wheel (2.5 inches for this wheel). The hole cutter has a 1/4 inch center drill and fits my pen mandrel on the lathe, or chuck into a drill and turn against a belt sander.
I then shape the wheel on the lathe using my pen mandrel. Shape the wheel and treads.
Cut out the center of the wheel with hole saw, hold with a pair of pliers!!
make a wheel holding jig – use cutouts from wheel holes. Center a 3/16th dowel to hold wheel hub in place.
Mark for spacing upper and lower spokes
Make the center hubs, I use 3/16 for axel hole and mark for spokes using awl
drill holes for spokes (1/16 for 16 guage wire)
insert wire into hole with CYA on tip and cut to length
Install all spokes glue at hub with toothpick as you go
carefully remove wheel from jig

That is some very fine detail work. Can’t wait to see it on the finished car.
