Well hello royal, and may I say greetings from Carpenters local 131, Seattle WA. Hope those kids are in good hands.

Cuz, apprentices that can't hit there own ass with both hands are far too frequent these days.

Welcome to LJs
I volunteer in a high school wood shop and teach and adult community college beginning course.
I don't know how the high school teachers can keep up with all they have to do to keep their programs on course. My hat off to you for being able to keep all those young folks going.

I spend a great deal of time tracking down parts and fixing our older machinery. After 6 years, the shop is finally getting to the level I want it and my kids are excited about the program. I have basically doubled the program in size, which is always a good thing! When I first started, the place was a big mess with numerous teachers using the facilities for years and no one really taking ownership. The shop is now much safer, cleaner and more organized. I am very thankful of our budget and my schools continued efforts to fund our tech programs.

Hi Royal, welcome to the site, I have the highest respect for Shop teachers unfortunately too many school districts are doing away with Shop Classes. I attended a Technical School and if it weren't for the training I got in Carpentry Class I would not be doing any woodworking. I think the educational system is going in the wrong direction by not expanding the technical classes. All they focus on is Academic courses. We do need workers in the Blue Collar Industry in which at one time the USA was a world Leader.

I took woodshop back in the Mid 80's . I even won the woodshop medal award for Excellence in the class 1 year. Got to watch & learn a lot(like to keep your fingers out of the saw, Watched a kid in class do just that, put a groove down the middle of his palm)

Great memories

Welcome !!

Hi There

I taught high school industrial arts many years ago. Then I worked in prison industries for 30 years. I have been retired now for the last two years. I put in a shop at my home and just build things for me and my family. Welcome to LJ's.

God Bless
tom
