Around the window DVD/CD shelving

Well,

The Honey do list is getting smaller. I am on to the biggest project so far. SWMBO and I have been talking about a shelving unit to store all our DVD's and CD's. Well, I have a starting point. The wood has been purchased for 2 of the units. As well as the material for some of the shelves. These will be 6 feet high and about 12 1/2 inches wide with 1/2 inch shelves. My plan is to do a rough up of the carcass so I can get the placement of the shelves.
Before I start working on them I will take pics of the wood. I found some very nice select pine at Menard's and the 1/2 inch shelf material was at Johnson's Workbench. All told so far about $55.00 invested so far. Well it is late and I want to get up early so I can get started. See ya tomorrow

Major screw up today

Well today was not a good day. I measured the spot for the 1st dado 3-4 times. Thought that I was dead on. When I went to check it I was at least 1 inch off. Then I realized that I di not take into consideration the bottom piece. The inside dimension is going to be 12 inches. I thought about modifying the design slightly, but that would compromise the whole thing. So tomorrow I am going to start again. I now know the dimensions needed. So now I will make the dado @ 9 inches. I still have 2 fresh sides to use. I can salvage the 2 mistakes and hopefully use them for the top shelving unit or under the window.

Back to the proverbial drawing board!!!!!!! I have pics taken will post tomorrow

Keep the sawdust flying.

So far not so good

Here is what I have so far on the window shelving. Had to stop to get TS fixed. The switch went out on it. The pics are of 6ft 1×6 select pine and 1/2 inch pine from Johnson's workebench.
I was able to set up and test fit the dados. I will have my TS back by next tuesday.

So this is what I have done. The only thing I have not taken a pic of yet is the actual dados that I have already cut. Hope this helps.

BTW I am going through withdrawls without the TS.

Sorry about the TS. I would send you pictures of mine, but I think it would only make it worse :(

Nice looking wood for the project, will look real nice when complete. I hope there are no further delays with the project. Hang in there.

Hi Rick,
Those darn tools always break down when you need them most. There must be some sort of conspiracy. :->

Don't you just hate it when that happens.

Looks like the progress was pretty good up until then.

Is that why you are going back to the Bench, to get your TS? What are you paying for your select pine over there? Menards in Lansing has some pretty good Select Pine pretty cheap. Probably cheaper than the Bench. Not the one on Saginaw but the one off Cedar St. What day you going over there to the Bench? Sat or Fri.?

No I just haven't been to that bench in a long time. My saw is at Sears service center. I payed $7.49 a piece for 6 ft pieces. We were thinking Fri. but we are flexible.

I found a cure for that problem of tools breaking down when you need them most, always have a backup, and if possible, have two, (backups that is). Apparently part of my probllem with not having time to get at the projects is that I'm too busy buying tools to build them with.

Table Saw is Back

Well,

I got the table saw back and am now getting ready to continue with the process. It cost me $73.48 to get it fixed. Minus the 29.99 deposit I paid 43.49. So not bad. Will keep you updated as I make progress.

That's great Rick, I got a couple more computers for you to fix if you want the jobs. Let me know, 2 laptops and 1 desktop. By the way, this computer you loaned me is great. I am Zooming on this one. We'll talk! lol

Not working again. Time to get started

Well,

I got a call on Friday that I was no longer needed at my job. (very disappointing). So now I can get back to the task at hand of building these damn shelves. I visited with Jockmike2 yesterday and may be willing to try his suggestion of using my router to do the dadoes. I am going to do some math before I decide to do that though. I still may be able to use my dado set. Will keep y'all posted.

Rick
