What first bowl gouge size should I buy?

I tried searching but I couldn't find a straight answer. I love my PSI turncrafter pro lathe and have been enjoying turning pens for a few months now. But I want to expand into turning bowls and other non-pen things. I'm going to buy a Nova chuck (the one that comes with both 25mm and 50mm jaws) sometime this week but I don't know which size bowl gouge to get. I'm only planning to buy one bowl gouge for now, so what's a good size to get? I've seen 3/8" and 1/2" are the most popular. My lathe can only turn bowls 9-10" max diameter if that helps… thanks!

I have both a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch bowl gouge. I definitely prefer the bigger gouge. I also like my bowl gouges to have a long (17") handle. Often the only 2 tools I use to turn a bowl is my 1/2 gouge and a good solid round scrapper.
