Juniper Log Coffee Table Base / Pedestal

Since early fall we have been swamped in the shop and still have not gotten caught up from Christmas. Our inventory is depeleted and we are trying to get items instock as well as work on a few custom orders.

Here is a rough form piece of juniper that we will make into a coffee table that will have a rock slab for a top. Once this is finished it will be shipped to Norway.

Hi Candy, and family;

This looks to be the start of yet another amazing project.

And to think all this time, I've been trying to find straight wood!

I'm looking forward to seeing the progress pics.

Juniper Table Base Leveled & Shaped

Well, we are making some progress on the two coffee tables that we are working on. This is after it has been leveled, the levelers/slides have been added and all the rough edges have been rounded and shaped. Today my husband is sandblasting then tomorrow we should start the final and longest phase… sanding and polishing

This is the part that we cringe and hope we stay in line… dont want to end up with an extra short coffee table

Whew… right on line and ready to finsihe leveling the top

Edges are cleaned up and ready for sandblasting

That's wild. Like a gem cutter, sort of. Finding the best in the object. Looks like fun. That wood and the random natural curves make that so beautiful. Cool.

Sanblasting and Cleaning out the Grooves

I ran outside a few minutes ago and snapped these pictures of the sanblasting extravaganza. Actually it is not all that exciting, a bit dangerous from all the dust and right now it is cold.

Since this base is bigger than our blast cabinet we had to construct our blasting booth. This morning it was sunshiny and promise of a warmer day, but with it being colorado weather it turned of cloudy and breezy and a bit cold.

SInce we are bit behind schedule and trying to get things finished we can not wait for a warmer day, acordding to the weather man it is suppose to be snowy through the week.

Anyway here is the happy husband… ahahahah I just caught him when he wasnt expecting a picture.

I really enjoy sandblasting because you can watch the latyers peel away and see the beautiful lines and colors. Other than getting a stiff neck and shoulders, sandblastind is one of my favorite things to do.

Sanding and More Sanding

Here is the other coffee table, my husband is working on one and I am working on the other. You can see that the gold color of wood is now getting lighter

This side is finished, time to roll it over.

Ready to Spray the Finish

Here is the larger coffee table base. Ready to be sprayed. We will spray them with Satin Polycrylic and most likely have to flip it upside down and spray the bottome with couple of coats and when that is dry, flip it back over and do the top part.

Absolutely beautiful piece…...as a juniper worker and lover of the crazy wood, can't wait to see the finished product
