What is the most accurate way to find the center of round stock?
How do I attach pics with this post

I find plastic center finder the easiest to use.

As far as pictures are concerned, you need to post them to a hosting site (Photobucket, flicker, etc) first then copy the link and paste it into your post and use the "image" button above/left of the posting area.

I agree with lew. Cheap and accurate.
I have one of these plastic gadgets. Works fine on square stock, guess I'll have to figure out how to use it for round.
Just lay it in against the edges and make a mark. Turn it a quarter turn and mark again. It will give you the center.

When I was growing up, my dad was a pattern maker at a steel foundry. A few years ago, he decided to have a yard sale and gave me first crack at his tool box. I don't know why I didn't take more, but one of the things I did get was this 6" Starrett.

The center finder works great for both square and dowels. I just wish I would have snagged this one's 12" brother with the protractor, but I didn't want to be greedy.

The plastic one I have is a two sided device. One side has a set of "fences" place at a right angle. Use this side for finding the center of square stock. The other side has a set of fences placed at about a 45 degree angle to each other. Use this side to find the center of round stock.
