Toy Chest Build

Laying out the pieces and preparing the rails & stiles

I built these toy chests for my Nieces (they aren't technically my nieces but I consider them family!), we've been talking about it with them and their parents for a couple years now, and one of the twins is particularly interested in my woodworking shop. They always have to look for our cat who is scared of everyone and hides out whenever someone knocks on the door, but usually the cat is hiding out in the shop, and the curious kids always have questions about all the stuff in my shop…. So I wanted to make this video to show them how I made the toy chests, I had much more footage than I first anticipated, and decided that I will break it into 3 parts.

In the first part I am just getting the layout of all the rails and stiles figured out, trying to somewhat bookmatch them, and getting the grooves cut to accept the panels. I started with 2 pieces of birch plywood.

Thanks for looking!

Nice. Video turned out great. The sleeveless shirt I'm sure is keeping you cool, but it has me sweatin'.

Well that's lunchtime today sorted. I can munch on my spicy chicken and rice and watch a '7' vid. Happy days!

Thanks for watching, I hope you like it!

Disclaimer: I'm not sure but I'd imagine there will be some Safety Sally comments about the placement of my stop when I'm cutting the tongues. Please trust me, I'm comfortable and know the limits of my saw and I respect it, in this situation it was acceptable because I was taking off such a small amount of material

Thanks for sharing and taking the time to make the video. Out of curiosity, how time do you have in just editing?

Thanks bYo. I'd guess with regards to editing, this one was in the 6-8 hour range, maybe on the lower end. I'm pretty rusty though and just using standard windows movie maker, if I had a real editing program I think editing would go faster.

Phoebe!

I love your vids man and really enjoy seeing your methods of work. For some reason the clock on the wall spinning was striking to me, I can't say why though; I just dug it <shrug>.

Awesome through and through Noah! Thanks for taking the time to put it together and share.
