Tote / caddy - for the allotment kitchen.

Tote / caddy
for the allotment kitchen.

This is a tote, were made out of need in the beginning of the summer, as I were tired of bringing food from my gas fridge, into the kitchen in my wee allotment house, because I found my self running forward and backward several times.
I had precut the wood and made the fingers on my jig, back in my Copenhagen workshop, so it was bought to the allotment as pieces, to spend some time in the early spring in my wee workshop there.
The wood were recycled wood from the local trash, some old shelves as I remember it, why there are laquer on one side.

During the summer, I have put a solar system (220v) into the house and bought a new fridge, so now I use the tote for work around the allotment house and to bring food into the garden.

Early spring in the allotment workshop, a white spirit burner, helps me stay warm.

Working with simple tools, making a slot for the carry arm.

Glue on the fingers - mine also…

Found some old clamps and bought some at the local recycle centre.
Kind of fun to make a second workshop here.

The glue is drying, while I can sit and enjoy the green is starting to comeback in the garden.

Looking in, from the outside, joyful to see the old shed, bow has a workshop atmosphere.

Workbench, storage and a vice.

Drill press, table saw and a generator, with this most can be made.

Here inside the house, where I use another tote in the mean while.

Next day were a wonderful sunshine day, so I moved outside, gluing up the handle part.

Shaping the handle, to get a soft area for holding.

Cutting some wood nails, from bamboo skewers.

Realizing we don't need a lot of tools, like back in my Copenhagen workshop, to work wood and feeling lucky to have friends, I meet through LJ and sending a thought to a name brother Madts, who brought me the wonderful hand plane as a gift, when he came all the way from Texas, to my wee Copenhagen workshop.
Thank you again Madts, it has become my favourite tool in the allotment now, king of the tools there and I enjoy a lot too use it.

Back to working wood, a pocket knife, to shape the nails.
The pocket knife, is a highly underrated tool.

Pre drilled holes on the sides and top.

Now the nails, could be driven in with glue.

Could not find the bench dogs, so had to improvise, this is kind of wonderful, as it feels like new ground.

Time for some simple sharpening, a slate stone, in a greasebox and a wee spit life is sweet.

Yep it's sharp.

Planing the last finish.

I smile.

We got a tote.
Gave it a Danish oil finish on the ouside.

Tote and house.

Time for lunch.

Practical, no more running.

Back in the house.

I think it suits the kitchen.
The fridge in the wall, was not working, it was a 12v fridge, that the previous owner had tried to put on a tiny 12v solar system, with no luck, I gave the fridge to the local Red cross, after I bought a new and upgraded the solar to a 220v system.

_Hope it can be to some inspiration, perhaps less running…

Looks like a handy tool for the allotment house. That's closed up for the winter now? When will you return in the spring?

Hi Dave, yes it's all closed up now, from 1. November until 1. April, we are not allowed to sleep there, I can go there as much as I wan't, but can't sleep in the house (this means we don't have to pay taxes).
Yes I will go back in April and spend the summer there.
Plant Sky Furniture Window Building

Even I were there last weekend and slept in the garden in the hammock, a hole in the rules, smiles.
Plant Sky Wood Window Facade

Then the day could be spend in the house.
Happy winter monkey here.
Thank you, best thoughts,
Mads

Thanks for bringing us along on this simple elegant build. There is something endearing about a small workspace. Many modern conveniences were conceived in shops that were not much more than a closet. When one has a drive to do something they will find a way to do it and a place to do it in. Even if that means a small space.

Hi guys,
Brit, Thank you, I feel lucky to have found a place that needs things to be made, where I can feel useful doing woodworking.
Doug, Yes it's ironic, once we have a big workshop, all sorts of tools, machines and endless possibilities we start to enjoy more and more, the simple woodworking. Once we have the skills, we realise, that we don't need all the tools to do wonderful woodworking projects. Guess that life in a nut shell. Thank you a lot.
lew, Big smile tank you , I love my little place and look so much forward to get back for summer, planting and enjoying the simple life.
Sylvain, Thanks. The problem was that my webiste provider, where my pictures is linked to, were not set up as a secure SSL with https, to me it was like speaking Russian, but now we have set it up, so it run secure. Only problem is, that basically I would have to change all the links on LJ to https instead of http, to get rid of the insecure message in the browsers, but it works now and that will be ok, to correct 400 blos, will be a massive work load.
Best thoughts,
Mads
