It is a good program. It helps guys that otherwise might give up or at the least always have that nagging feeling they do not belong or fit it with civilian life. Telling them to man up or get over it and move on, or sending them to therapy, or drugs to deal with it is a band aid. Unless you have lived on the razors edge, or tried to put your comrade back into one piece oozing guts and all you cannot know what these guys go through. I have walked both sides of this coin, serving and losing comrades, then doing Funeral Detail and looking into the eyes of the loved ones they left behind. Everyone responds differently to it. A one size fits all fix does not and will never exist.

No Joe I have not participated in such a program. I grew up working with woodworkers so the hobby was in place before I went into the Marines. Upon my return I returned back to this and found it very relaxing and rewarding. Years later I went to Iraq as a contractor. Brought home several 3 ring binders of drawings and projects to do. At least 3 lifetimes worth!

Myself I have a different outlook on life whether that be from faith, or how I was reared I cannot really say. From my experience I have memories both good and bad, and at times I do miss the razors edge. During my last year in Iraq I met a beautiful woman in Ukraine and a year later we got married. A good woman has amazing therapeutic value. Now why she chose me I have no idea…. LOL
