Stu's Shed Meets Lazy Larry's Workshop

Yesterday had a visit from Stuart Lee… from Stu's Shed . He is a fairly imfamous Podcaster here in Australia with quite a following worldwide.
It was a real whirlwind tour… he flew up from Melbourne to take a look at my workshop and also check out the Torque Workcentre… we had met Stu in Melbourne… at both the Alternative Wood Show at the Woodworking Warehouse Open Day and at the Melbourne Working With Wood Show and he wanted to have more time one on one so to speak.. Round trip .. Melbourne… Brisbane… Melbourne… equivalent to round trip …New York to Miami… he has taken a liking to my designs and to the Torque Work Centre…What better reason for the trip..
Aaron from Torque and I drove down to the Brisbane airport to pick Stu up at just after 9 AM getting back to the workshop around 10 AM. A quick tour of the workshop and the wood store… a few pics and a video…
.
Then we had an indepth question and answer session about the Torque WorkCentre.. Stu seems very taken with the Wee Beastie and wants the 2.5 metre bed with the 1300 mm arm and all the accessories. From the short time we had together he suggested a host of innovations and uses for the machine.
Did a few Demos on the machine… Used the saw attachment to cross cut a laminated top for an entertainment unit I am still working on…. New Guinea Rosewood… of course… lol
Attached the router and did some funky free hand designs, cut a circle and then cut a ring out of the circle… a little sign making with the copy attachment… both engraved letters and raised letters.. More of that later..Stu will be doing reviews of all the features and attachments over the next few months.
The above video was only part of what Stu shot yesterday.. Check out his site for this visit
We all had a blast… so much fun getting together with other woodies and just chatting and having a few refreshing Coolaids…I wish everyone could have been there… next time maybe…
I told Stu to bring a bag [empty] and I sent him back with some hairy oak, avocado, conkleberry and since he had admired and blogged my woven board so much, made sure that one found its way into the bag too.
Keep the good lady wife happy and he can get another leave pass maybe.. lol…

Aaron and Stu in the shed…
Btw Stu was most impressed with a small carvers Mallet that he saw… Nice one Kent
Before we knew it … time to go to the airport… got there 30 minutes before the flight but because Stu had to check luggage they told him he should have been there 90 minute before… oh well QANTAS did the right thing and booked him on the next flight… no charge… and he still did not get home till well after midnight…
One fantastic trip… I know … we did it in reverse a few weeks ago…
Till next time keep looking and posting and working safe..

Ok Larry, just saw this video. You don't need any curly! This would be considered hoarding over here and after documenting your hoarding behavior… this video should be followed up by a visit to your local nut house. No… not Wal-nut house…. I mean Looney Bin! Nice stash.

Larry,
Nice tour, and thanks for the plug. It's always nice to see what's happening on the other side of the world.
Someday I've got to get a video camera. Maybe I can show you my place then.
Still love the accent "Ya'll" have. By the way, you have way too much wood on hand. How are you ever going to make that many cheese boards?

Thanks
Kent

Attached the router and did some funky free hand designs, cut a circle and then cut a ring out of the circle… a little sign making with the copy attachment… both engraved letters and raised letters.. More of that later..Stu will be doing reviews of all the features and attachments over the next few months.

Very Cool tour of your shop. every time I see your photo or video I always forget what a young ladd you are. In another ten years your skill level will be so high that you'll be making lazy Larry's you ride on. :))
Congrats on the tour. As always I enjoyed your post and products.

Holly wood storage Batman! I've seen lumber mills that have less stock than that. Absolutely an amazing shop.

Don't let them get to you, they are all just jealous that they don't have a wood pile like that to go to,, I on the other hand do. Of course mine isn't outside the shop it's called Sutherlands but I like to call it mine, after all the money I've spent with them I concider myself a silent partner, great show I really enjoyed seeing your shop and all. Thanks for sharing and as soon as I find out where your shop is I'll come pay a visit, about 3 in the morning so don't shoot, it will just be me raiding your stash. Thanks for the post keep them coming

Hey there grizzman, I'm pretty much in the same boat with the bad back, only I got bad everywhere ol artie in every joint in my bod, I thought I'd pass along an idea I'm going to do to keep from having to dig through an entire stack to get one board, I have open face stairs going down in my basement to my work shop, nothing but wasted space under them so I'm building a platform out of 2×4's and plywood to fasten under each stair so the plywood is flush with the top of the next step, this way all your 1 foot scrap boards can stack under the first step the next step 2 foot next step 3 foot and so on, you need a 1 foot go up to that step and get one replacing as you go, this will prevent you from having to dig through a stack and it frees up space in your shop where most people have racks up against a wall etc. and utilizes what is other wise just wasted space or as i had stuff stuck in there and then to much trouble to dig back out so it just gets left. The only prob with this is it dosen't hold a lot of one size board, but as you utilize every step it is really a lot of wood that would just be out in the way. Just thought I'd pass that along to you and the other LJ's since I don't have a way of posting pics just yet, just a small contribution for all the info I've gotten. Hope this idea helps someone.
