I picked up a Stanley number 12 the other day and when I took it apart to begin the clean up and tune I discovered that it didn't have a smooth scraper type blade in it but a toothed blade, forget the proper name for them. This seems to be an uncommon blade? Is it a pre scraper blade? what is its main/best usage?

its primary use was for veneering, but it works well for preconditioning on really difficult grain. Hit it with a toothed blade, then a smoother or regular scraper.
