I am finishing my plant stand project and having trouble with the stain being splotchy. On red oak, I applied a 2lb cut of amber shellac. Lightly sanded with 400 grit. Then, applied 2 coats of GF walnut gel stain. I chose the shellac under coat and gel stain specificly to aviod the splotch. Any advice out there?
