Went over to Bill's today to get the table saw. This did not go well, since the table saw did not run when we plugged it in. After a while of fiddling and checking things with other things, it has been determined that the switch and relay are bad, and it needs re-wiring. It has also been determined that a lot of the places on the frame of the saw, where you are supposed to be able to bolt things to other things, are also no good. The bits that the bolts should be bolted into are broken or corroded away.
My father-in-law however insists that he will "get [me] a table saw, don't you worry". I am not sure if he means to re-wire this saw, or dig up another one in the family somewhere.
By means of apology / further decluttering his shop he gave me a router and a shop-vac instead.

Sounds like your father in-law likes you. I wouldn't be surprised if there were another saw in the works. Its the set backs that make us appreciate the things we have all the more.So, no table saw.

My FIL rocks - he's a great guy, and we get along like gangbusters. And he is delighted that there's someone in the next generation who's also into woodworking and construction and such- all of his kids went the professional route.So, no table saw.

I should hunt up pictures of the barn raising we did. The barn came out well, though I wish he'd have put tar paper under the shingles instead of nailing them straight to the sheathing. That'll be trouble a few years out.
