Shop Dust Collection at the CNC Router

Hello all,

I am currently working with Blastgate Company to design a shop dust collection system and, after several weeks of back-and-forth, we are real close to getting it nailed down. That said, I was wondering if anyone with an installed system also has a separate drop near the CNC for a dust collection hose for vacuuming off the spoil board or just general clean-up? I see people roll over their shop vac to do this but was thinking there might be some real utility to having it installed in the system as well. Thanks.

We use the same hose for both and just keep a sweep (Our CNC routers use 2" shop vacs for dust collection) on the CNC so the operator can swap the hose between the two functions. It takes less time than opening and closing blast gates for a separate line.

There is a dust collection line attached to a long flex hose for general cleanup around the shop. Vacuuming with a 4" hose is a pain but sometimes if there's a big mess it's useful to use that instead of the 2" vacuum line.

Thanks. I have also thought about using the same hose but, with other ducting runs close by, it is very tempting to set something up that is dedicated for general vacuum use while the dust extractor is working.
If in doubt, setup for both methods. Unused ports can be capped and removed from service but adding one later takes more effort.
