Is it just me or does it seem a good router table costs MORE than a good router? WTF?

Then yesterday at Lowes they have a bench top Router table for like $129 bucks… WITH A ROUTER!!!

I don't recall the brand, but it all looked solid.

Accessories for any good tool should not be more expensive than said [email protected]

If the table was 129 with router, it's a piece of crap. Build your own table and get a good router and put a lift in it. Outside my TS, my router table gets used the most. The bigger the surface the better with a decent fence. Good luck.

Thank you for saying that. And, most bench top tools fall in the same category.

The Kreg router table is the only benchtop version I have seen that really looked solid.
I use the Bench Dog top on a shop made base and it works great.

I started with a craftsman benchtop and a 1.75hp router-it really didn't handle the lengths I wanted to run through the router and I never really felt safe using it! Now I have an Incra table( 200.00 ) plate (90.00) The LS wonder fence system (510.00 ) and I picked up a 3hp triton at menards for 249.00. Pricey but I do things now that I would never thought I could do and I feel real safe using it. The only thing I built was the table with casters to put it on. That took a wife and 3 girlfriends :) Just kidding just one fabulous wife.

I will have you know I just got my Bench dog router table insert for my 618 DeWalt router and plan to make my own router table and put in the right end of my R4512 TS. When I get it done and up and running I will post.

I thought a long time about either buying one or making one and one of my considerations was the time it would take making a accurate one with a true fence. Then I thought HELL my table saw already has a fence!

Build your own table. Not only does it end up being a lot cheaper, you can customize the table and fence to your own liking. I built mine into the space between the TS fence rails on the right hand side of my saw.

What I found expensive were the lift mechanisms. But I solved that by buying a Triton Router; the 2 and the 3 HP both have a lift mechanism built in. Tritons are less than $260 and lifts can run $350 and up. With the Triton, I could spend more on the table.
