Router Table Cabinet



























This is a router table I'm working on for my shop. I was able to incorporate most the features I needed and plan to use it often. It isn't finished but most the major parts are in place. I purchased the Incra twin linear, router table top, woodpeckers router lift and the porter cable 7518 motor from Woodpeckers Inc back in 2002 or 2003. Finally, she's in working order.

Since the last post I was able to complete the rear portion which really dressed up this side of my table. I needed a place to keep the large Incra template guide booklet handy. Again I included dowels in the construction of these new parts, this kept things looking uniform.

There's also a new picture of the inside of the vacuum enclosure.

Some of the important features include:
  • locking casters
  • 16" ball bearing full extension slides for all 4 drawers
  • concealed hinges on the inset doors
  • grizzly power switch and aux power outlet on the front of the cabinet
  • Power is supplied by a 30 foot cord reel (I just installed a male plug to the end of the reel) built in
  • I put 3/8th" stained dowels in the panels of the doors and drawers on the sides
  • the dust collection enclosure is fabricated out of 1/2" mdf (the inside is smoothed, all corners have a 1" radius filled in and the bottom is made with an mdf frame and fiberglass in order to maximize dust flow) hooked up to 4" thin wall drain pipe (pvc)
  • the reason the two side doors open facing the operator is for future bit or accessory storage access
  • Incra template library drawer (I built a series of removable boards which house templates on both sides behind 1/8" lexan or acrylic)
  • plexi windows for viewing the router and lift in action
  • constructed from different types of pine and mdf

Future plans include:
  • trimming out the inside of the cabinet around the plexi windows
  • would like to add a Wixey digital router lift gauge
  • need a coat or three of Polystain or some finish haven't decided
  • use this table more and master all that its capable of!

Wow. That's a great table. Looks like you have pretty much everything you'll ever need planned out. Makes me want to rethink my design of the one I'm building. Great job!

Pretty nice! My router table (standard "norm" NYW design) is pretty basic compared to this. I really like the cord takeup reel.

I don't understand the thin drawer with graduated templates. Are these spacers of some kind for the fence system?

I know it's in there, just can't see the kitchen sink. Great design and great job of building it.

With out a doubt the finest table I have seen yet. My plans to build me a new one have just been elevated a lot. I like wheels. If it doesn't have wheels in my shop my pallet truck can move it.

That is a really nice table. I have to agree this is one of the nicest tables that I have seen.

Like everyone else has said. this is by far one of the best tables I have ever seen. I can't believe you've got so much stuff in there and its not even packed. Great job

Holy simolies batman that's a shop work of art! I too think its one of the nicest tables I've seen to date.
The Incra template racks are a great solution to their storage, and makes it far easier to find the right one. Do you plan to put labels or mark the top of the template holder frame with the templates it holds?

Favorited for future plagaristic WW endeavors.

Great set up.you should think in marketing this table you will find many woodworkers ready to buy it,I would buy this table,have a router but very little use for it,I turn only now,but is good to have around for odd jobs around the house,carpenters are real cheap here,hand labor is nothing here,well done ed

Boy. It's tough to say anything that hasn't already been said, but/so:

1) WOW. I said that … out loud … like 15 times as I looked at the pics and read the description. WOW!! Absolutely ingenious, incredibly smart engineering, and beautiful design/construction;

2) If you put plans together for building these … absolutely count me in. I'd love to have that bad boy dwelling in my woodworking area.

Since the last post I was able to complete the rear portion which really dressed up this side of my table. I needed a place to keep the large Incra template guide booklet handy. Again I included dowels in the construction of these new parts, this kept things looking uniform.

There's also a new picture of the inside of the vacuum enclosure.

Some of the important features include:
  • locking casters
  • 16" ball bearing full extension slides for all 4 drawers
  • concealed hinges on the inset doors
  • grizzly power switch and aux power outlet on the front of the cabinet
  • Power is supplied by a 30 foot cord reel (I just installed a male plug to the end of the reel) built in
  • I put 3/8th" stained dowels in the panels of the doors and drawers on the sides
  • the dust collection enclosure is fabricated out of 1/2" mdf (the inside is smoothed, all corners have a 1" radius filled in and the bottom is made with an mdf frame and fiberglass in order to maximize dust flow) hooked up to 4" thin wall drain pipe (pvc)
  • the reason the two side doors open facing the operator is for future bit or accessory storage access
  • Incra template library drawer (I built a series of removable boards which house templates on both sides behind 1/8" lexan or acrylic)
  • plexi windows for viewing the router and lift in action
  • constructed from different types of pine and mdf

Future plans include:
  • trimming out the inside of the cabinet around the plexi windows
  • would like to add a Wixey digital router lift gauge
  • need a coat or three of Polystain or some finish haven't decided
  • use this table more and master all that its capable of!

Router Table Cabinet

My only question is how do you remember where everything is? That is a great amount of storage in such a small package….I would agree with anyone asking for the plans on that….the cabinetry work is exquisite…at first I thought it was two pieces….but then noticed it was front and back shots….Your shop will be truly organized if you make such great use of small spaces. That looks like it will give you great service for a long time to come

That is one of the fanciest router tables I have ever seen. Seriously!
