After reading and appreciating the resources here for some time, my first post finds me seeking help on a lathe purchase.

I will be strictly turning baseball bats and other spindles approximately 3 inches in diameter and 30-38 inches in length.

Billets will be kiln dried and come round.

My question is if the Rikon 70-100 and it's 1/2 horsepower motor is enough to handle this workload on a regular basis or if I should spend the extra $200 on the Rikon 70-220 with the 1 HP motor?

Thank you.

I would go for the 1hp model. A bat is a good-sized spindle and you'll be turning pretty hard material … the extra 1/2hp would come in real handy.
