Hello All,

I have a question for all you festool users. I am planning on buying a festool rotex 125 sander and I was curious about where to get replacement sanding discs. Due to the unique design of festools dust collection I am wondering if I would be stuck buying ALL replacement sanding dics from Festool?

Is this the case or can you buy replacement Discs elsewhere?

I have a Festool 150 (6") sander. I get my sanding discs at the local festool distributor. You can buy single discs or the entire box of 25.

I also have a "regular" random orbit sander. My conventional wisdom was to use the Festool on special occasions because I expected the discs to be more expensive. That was not the case! I don't remember the specifics, but the Festool discs were much cheaper than the contractor pack of "regular" discs at Home Depot.

Take the time to figure out the Festool sandpaper grading system. It's the regular abrasive grading, but they have different series of papers with different durabilities and flexability.

Where are you looking to buy your sander. That dealer should have them. Festool has a different hole pattern, but other abrasive companies may have come out with paper to match. I'm not sure, but I'll check.

I have that sander, I found if you buy the Festool disks by the 25 pack they are cheaper than Norton or the like!
And I will attest they last longer than any other disk I seen, now some of that is due to their extraction method.
BUT as DaveR says if Klingspor has the CORRECT hole pattern for alot less then give them a try because I think their abrasives are great.
Another thing to check is that Festool has slightly different hook and loop design so that could be another reason to stick with Festool disks unless Klingspor has addressed that issue.

I did some more research this morning. Klingspore has it, as well as Mirka. Personally, I would use Festool discs, but Klingspore is a very good brand (We also carry it, just not for Festool sanders at this point)
mski is right about the hook and loop, so make sure whatever you use works with that sander.

I you have to order it anyway, get good paper, whatever brand you chose. It could very well be cheaper in the long run. Saving money up front is not always the best way to go.

Thanks for the info, I did not realize the festool discs were so affordable. I guess I just assumed they were priced as high as the rest of their products. Looks like the festool discs are the way to go, thanks!

The Festool sanders are amazing when working with dust collection. When hooked to their vacuum unit, the collection is almost unbelievable.

Just about any decent sized sanding supplier will carry disks to fit your Festool, including us!

Rynogrip 5 in - 9 hole hook and loop disks for Festool
Rynogrip 6 in - 9 hole hook and loop disks for Festool

Abranet Disks use a mesh backing instead of paper or cloth. This improves dust collection with any sander, and because there are no holes, the discks will work with any similar sized sander you may own.

I have the Festool rotex 125 sander. I know there are other brands available but I am sticking with the festool sanding disks. They are not much more expensive than other options and they seem to last forever. In the long run I think it is economically advantageous to use the festool disks.

Note - I always use my sander with a festool dust extraction system. That prolongs the life of the disk greatly and almost makes your shop dust free.
