A friend wants to buy my Delta 16 inch 3 wheel 28-560 band saw. I don't mind getting rid of it, so I started to look for a new or newer band saw. The band saw is the last tool in my shop I feel I need to upgrade. I don't, and have not done resawing due to 2 items. 1- I work in pine and it's easier and cheaper to just put it though the thicknesser and 2-my band saw can't resaw very well. So if I'm upgrading I'll be sure to get all the capabilities.
I have considering the following.

Grizzly 14 inch deluxe G0457, "The last band saw you'll ever need" according to Fine Woodworking. $989.00 Delivered
Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14-Inch Band saw $538 with riser delivered
G0555X 14" Extreme Series Band saw $773 with riser delivered

Rikon 10-325 14-Inch Deluxe Band saw $700.00 + tax

I did a search on craigslist and ebay for new and used band saws. 2 interesting posts came up.

A Jet 18 inch 1-3/4 HP band saw, model JET 710750 JWBS-18X 18-Inch 1-3/4-Horsepower Resaw Woodworking Bandsaw with Roller Guides Listed on Craigslist for $800, used, but looked in pretty good shape. Right here in the DFW area, but at 440# weight, how to move it??? And is it just to big? 22" X 33" X 71". But, believe it or not, it's about the same floorspace as my current Delta 28-560 band saw due to the spread legs and size. I just measured it.

And a Delta model 28-280 new in the box $550 plus shipping. The classic Delta band saw that is rated so well by Fine Woodworking. Enclosed stand, 1HP.

So what to do! Your recommendations?

Well I did buy the saw. I looked at the Rikon 14" Deluxe band saw for the same price. Figured new is better than 2-3 years old. Emailed the gentleman with my decision not to buy his unit. The gentleman dropped the price to $600, could not pass up that price . And it's in very nice shape.
So this is my Christmas present.

If it were me I'd get one of the three below. Grizzly makes a fine bandsaw at a reasonable price. My son has the Grizzly G0555 and loves it.

Dave,

IMO the grizzly GO55x is a great saw! I've owned mine for about 2 years and love it!!! Good strong saw with tension release. Everytime I use that tension release I hear my bandsaw go. Ahhhhhhh…......
:) hope this helps!
