Anyone else receiving Friend requests?
It's kind of creepy, I hope it doesn't keep going on.

The only thing o receive here, or send here, are "buddy requests," to let me know when they post a new project or start a new thread.
Well, now I kind of want to send you a friend request, just to mess with you…
Yea, I know I sound paranoid, but the 'buddy reuest' I received was just a little strange to me.
I'd be proud to be your buddy BinghamtonEd.
I usually make buddy requests of people whose work I really admire, and would like to follow. Alternately they will have the same interests such as CNC work or carving.
Farrout, I was looking at your profile as I added you to my buddy list. I like the use of the rolling Craftsman cabinets for mobile tool bases, especially the miter saw.
There's no requests, just a notification someone has added you. If you receive a request, it's not from LJs.
Don is Correct. So what is it that you are asking about? An ACTUAL REQUEST? If so. It's BOGUS!

There is NO such thing on here as a "Friend Request" OR A "Buddy Request".

I notice from your Profile that you've been on here for 1690 Days and have not made anyone a "Buddy". So I can well understand Your Concerns Farrout.

I'll do my best to Confuse you even more …LOL… NO! NO!.. I'll do what I can to explain it ALL to You. Any Questions? Please don't hesitate to ask. On Here or by PM (Personal Message)

The only thing you can do on here is go to someones Profile and click on "Add To Buddies". There is no such thing as a "Buddy Request". It Automatically happens when you click on "Add To Buddies.

Personally I Don't agree with that Process. The Person you WANT to make a "Buddy" should have the option of Accepting OR Refusing Your Request. The Reason? Sorry. Figure it out.

You can Remove anyone YOU have made a Buddy at any time. YOU CANNOT Remove yourself as a Buddy if Another Member has made YOU a Buddy.

They are listed on Page 2 of Your Profile as "See the Lumberjocks who count you as a Woodworking Buddy". You might not be able to access that Page as you have no present Buddies. Which is kind of stupid. (The Site, Not You)

After someone makes you a "Buddy", you should then automatically receive, via your Personal e-mail a Notice from Lj's that "Someone" has added you as a "Buddy" with further instructions included.

You can also "BLOCK" anyone by going to THEIR Profile and clicking on "Block". You can Unblock them at any time. If someone else BLOCKS You, You cannot remove their Block.

You know what they say Farrout ….. "I took The Road Less Travelled. Now I'm Really Lost!" ...LOL.

"Buddy" is an unfortunate term because you are not buddies or on a friend's list, you don't get requests, it's just a way of following someone's posts or projects.
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the term "Buddy" and a "friend's list" is a non entity.

"it's just a way of following someone's posts or projects." That's not the only 2 things I use it for.

How would You prefer to see it done, or are you just stating Your Personal Opinion?

Which we are all entitled to naturally.
You can send/receive a "friend" request - by email - from your home (profile) page. I think this is available only as a resource to invite nonmembers to join LJ's. If you get one of these it should be by your private email account and not site PM's
For the sake of clarity, here is the PM I received.
Hi,
Just wondering if it would be ok if I added you to my buddies?

Let's not drag this out. I'm sure it is someone that just wanted to say Hi.
Someone isn't familiar with the workings of the net or this website and didn't realize that the permission thing is generally built into the system thus rendering private messages unnecessary.
Farrout:

"Just wondering if it would be ok if I added you to my buddies?" There is absolutely nothing wrong with that PM.

He wanted to do Exactly what He is asking to do, not just drop by and say "Hi".

It's also NOT a "Friend" Request as I've mentioned above. Had you Posted the PM originally, it would have clarified this entire Situation, or at least made it a LOT easier to explain.

It's from "Someone" that has the Decency to ASK You if it would be okay to add you as a Buddy, instead of just doing it "Automatically."

MAYBE they didn't realize that it was an Automatic thing. Maybe not.

In fact that is the way I do it, and I'm VERY Familiar with the Workings of the WWW and this Site!

Sorry to "Drag This Out". By Your INTRO I thought I was being of assistance. Won't happen again.

I'm done here. Have a Nice day!

This is an atrocity. Why on earth (should I capitalize the E when typing Earth?) would a social networking site (yes… LumberJocks is a social networking site, despite the unfortunate name) allow one member to follow the online activity of another within the confines of that site?

It seems to me that if someone wants to be my buddy, they should be subjected to a rigorous mental, physical, and psychological evaluation by a certified know it all prior to even being forwarded to me for approval/disapproval. I would obviously reject their bid for friendship, because I like rejecting people. It shows my class, and… I. am. Classy.

"This is an atrocity."

You got that right Bucket! Your Entire Second Paragraph is Exactly that and Pure Bull Droppings!

A Totally Useless Comment! (Note The Capitals?)

As kdc68 has pointed out. It's Totally Laughable!
