Progress Update on the Custom Steak Knife Commission Project

Hey folks, the Wife is in town getting a piece of glass for the top of my knife display box, and so I snuck in from the shop to post an update on the progress for my custom steak knife project. This is the first set of 18 knives. I haven't started the second set of 12 knives, so it will be a another long couple of weeks to get them finished. This first set of 18 needed to be in Las Vegas for a party this coming Saturday night, so that was a hard push to get them finished in time. This project is the first time in 13 years that I have worked Sundays for a customer, or a Thanksgiving Day, but I committed to making the deadline.

I have a few more details to do, and then they are off to the UPS Store.

OK, what's up with the Damascus blades? Now you're going to tell me that you also made those. If you did you are a master of all! Those are awfully nice stake knives Mark! You used just about all aspects of art form in that set, from inlay, art design, scrimshaw, carving, and joinery. Were you given freedom with the case design? Nice added touch with the inlay to hide the knot defects.

Really Mark! This set is very impressive! Damascus steel, antler bone, scrimshaw and a rustic box with turquoise accents! Very nice! I also noticed that of all the scrimshaw samples you sent, the client chose an elk, which wasn't something that you submitted? What kind of finish did you use on the box?

Progress Update on the Custom Steak Knife Commission Project

Hey folks, the Wife is in town getting a piece of glass for the top of my knife display box, and so I snuck in from the shop to post an update on the progress for my custom steak knife project. This is the first set of 18 knives. I haven't started the second set of 12 knives, so it will be a another long couple of weeks to get them finished. This first set of 18 needed to be in Las Vegas for a party this coming Saturday night, so that was a hard push to get them finished in time. This project is the first time in 13 years that I have worked Sundays for a customer, or a Thanksgiving Day, but I committed to making the deadline.

I have a few more details to do, and then they are off to the UPS Store.
