I'm really having a hard time with bad ink cartridges from pen kits I've purchased from Rockler and Woodcraft. Anybody else running into this issue and what have you done to help solve it? In less than a week most of the ink cartridges are dead/not working and people are coming back to me complaining about them.

I finally have gone out and purchased genuine parker pen refills and have been replacing all of the pens with these, but at close to $5 each, that has started to become costly. For as much as they charge for the pen kits, you would think you could get a reliable ink cartridge that will last longer than a week.

Anybody have any suggestions on this? I appreciate it.

I'm just about to start with pens. Thanks for letting me know to avoid those. That is surprising though, ink should last for a long while. I have a Cross pen I got as a gift 15 years ago. It sat unused for 15 years until I recently came across it again a few months back. I use it regularly now and the ink is still good.

Penn State Industries (pennstateind.com) sells refills for both Parker- and Cross- style pens, and they are much cheaper than name-branded refills - around $1 - $2 each. They are not as consistent in ink delivery as the name-branded refills, but I rarely have to throw one away. Hope this helps…

I have great results with kits purchased from CraftsuppliesUSA. Cheaper than Woodcraft, and better shipping options. CraftSuppliesUSA's turning catalog is pretty awesome too, it's like wood turning porn.
