Hey LJ's - I have an opportunity to pick up a Performax 22-44 for $600. It's a three legged version, which I think (?) is an older version. It's not the Pro model. I'm having hard time finding much info. on this model.

Anyone have experience with this model, or know the real differences between this and the four-legged and/or Pro versions? Anyone know if that drum shroud is plastic vs. metal, and how well the dust collection works? I've read great things about dust pickup on the Pro, but couldn't find anything on this model.

I'd really like to grab a SuperMax 19-38, which looks to me like the cream of crop, but have yet to see a single one used in a year of looking.

Thanks much,
Steve

I've got a 22-44 pro max 3 I bought in 1994 and it's still going strong. The only thing I've had to do to it was replace the conveyor belt several years ago and it's nothing but a wide belt.

Mine has four legs and is a newer version of the the one with 3 legs. I know of one in the photo that's older than my Performax and it too is still going strong. I think the one with four legs handles wider panels much better than the one with three legs.

The dust shroud is a strong plastic and mine still works just fine. I use a dust collector with mine not a shop vac but the shop vac should take care of the dust for you.

I had ordered my belts for it from Industrial Supply since day one then used some from Peachtree Woodworking in Atlanta a couple of years ago..same price I think and a better belt so I order my belts from them now or just drive down to the store and get them. I do a lot of sanding with mine and one roll of 120 , three wraps, usually last me a year.
