First Pen

Well if all goes well and weather permitting I will be attending a class at Woodcraft on Sunday for Pen Turning. I signed my Father up to go along with me. Hoping we both enjoy ourselves. I know this is something I would like to get into doing and it will be nice to finally experience first hand turning a pen. I might get some photos up of my results. :)

You will have a great time. With your Dad going with you it will be a bonus. Turning pens is an awesome hobby and they make some great Christmas gifts. They are easy to turn and only take a short time to finish. Just head my warning: "They are addictive".

I'm sure we'll have a good time, looking forward to it because him and I don't do alot of things like this. He is turning 60 this year I'll be going on 34 myself later in the year. He has done some wood working in the past and have turned gavels and other things on a larger lathe he owns. I think doing a pen will be different for him and for me I'm just starting into wanting to do wood working and from I see this looks like a good start.

i started (not that I would consider myself anything but a novice turner) with turning a pen at woodcraft almost 2 years ago. since then i probably have turned over 35 pens and pencils-my favorite out of deer antler. it does get addicting and soon after you start to turn wine bottle stoppers-i've done about 10 of these. after that, well a couple candle holders but now i'm at a standstill. i have thoughts about a chess set, but that would be quite the undertaking. i wish you luck, not that you will need it because you will get addicted, and happy turning!
