Palm Sander

My old palm sander needs replacement. I started looking for a "square base" palm sander that uses velcro or hook and loop sanding sheets but I cannot find any. Are they available in this type? If so, what brand?

I have a Festool RTS 400 and love it.

That looks like a great tool but unfortunately beyond my budget…

You might want to do what I do. I am a Festool addict and I totally agree Festool prices are off the chart. What works for me is to find good values for Festool. I look at ebay, Craigslist, and Amazon Warehouse Deals. Good deals are few and far between but they are out there. One just has to be patient and in no hurry. For the record once you use a Festool or Mirka sander you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.
I predict that 10+ year old sander will sell for close to the price of a new one when all is said and done.

I'm not aware of anyone who sells square velcro backed sanding sheets. Which , by extension, means there are no sanders.

Yep. And, you can buy PSA hook sheets that will stick to any sander that doesn't already have H&L pads.
bosch has been a staple here, along with metabo
but have quite a few others, rigid, b&d, dewalt, not a fan of dewalt though. b&D is a lot lighter than others a pleasure to use for long terms of sanding where you need to do an edge or side, not so heavy and easy to maneuver

rj in az,
I wish sheet sanders came with hook & loop rather than those clips too. But as mentioned above, you can rig your own..

+1 JRsgarage. I Really dodn't use the square palm sander anymore. Kept one 1/4 sheet sander (just in case). I switched to using detail sanders instead. Since hook and loop is readily available.

Velcro sheets stick on sheets are readily available to add the velcro hooks to the sander.

Hook & loop sand paper is available. Or buy hook & loop sand paper rolls. Use a leather hole punch to punch out the holes.

You could replace your sanding pad on your palm sander to a hook & loop sanding pad. Hard and soft backer sanding pads are available. You may need to drill new holes to match your palm sander. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32945371352.html

or this will help with instructions on how to switch your current palm sander to a hook & loop sander https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32942924519.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000060.1.534c3a60m8704K&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller&scm=1007.13339.274681.0&scm_id=1007.13339.274681.0&scm-url=1007.13339.274681.0&pvid=d20c62e7-b1ab-4f7e-9ccf-6d750af30ad4&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller,scm-url:1007.13339.274681.0,pvid:d20c62e7-b1ab-4f7e-9ccf-6d750af30ad4,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238109%231935&pdp_ext_f=%257B%2522sku_id%2522%253A%252266189777248%2522%252C%2522sceneId%2522%253A%25223339%2522%257D&pdp_pi=-1%253B4.36%253B-1%253B-1%2540salePrice%253BUSD%253Brecommend-recommend

WOW! Great help from everyone on this thread. I went to the supergrit page, emailed them and received a quick response. Bought what they recommended. Will update after I try it out. Thanks.
I was SOLD on a Festool but it failed within a year. They fixed it for me, for free. Used it another 1/2 year and it fell apart again. trashed it and bought a Makita for 1/3 the cost and it has served me well for over a year….so far. I recommend Makita.
I like to ask: "What do pro's use?" Well, as a pro Sheet metal worker (retired now) we use Makita power tools. Rugged, dependable, affordable!
