OCTAGONAL TRIVETS
THE DESIGN
This is the design where it has started.
At first, I thought it was difficult due to complicated angles. but what I realized later there were only two angles that will be cut namely: 22.5 deg and 45 deg cut. The 45 degree is only used when the star in the middle is to be done.
THECONSTRUCTION
So I started with making the stripes. I glued 4 pcs of stacks that I already prepared in making the coaster. Selecting the 4 colors: green (not know wood), black (kamagong), brown (ipil) and the white (gimelina) Making it 1×1x9 inches stack. Then rip it to make 5 pcs of 3/8×1 .. the thinner stacks were also glued together.
Then, set my compound saw for 22,5 degree cut and cut the stripes so that it will be isosceles triangle. Segregate the same color blend and match it respectively. Here are the photos to explain the steps by steps.
STAR CUT
It is quite amazing that I have done the star in a very simple manner. The pieces are so small that you need to held it bye hand while the stock is still long. Whichever you prefer to cut first the 22.5 degrees or the 45 degrees. NOTE: You have to be very careful about the sawcut and kerf. The accuracy must be tested because it is hard to grind or sand very small pieces such as this. Also, I have a separate mitering box of 45 deg to use. I never use my compound saw to be set on both angles. Remember that if you do the repeated steps, then you should never interrupt the tools as it will change the setting.
And so the job is done. What is left to do is sanding and varnishing.. I made 4 of them. Meaning that I cut a hundred times by saw..
Hope you enjoy the blog. Thanks for appreciating the project.
God Bless.
