New Band Saw Setup

Last week I picked up a new Grizzly G0555LANV Band Saw. This was the result of a lot of consideration, but I finally pulled the trigger. Getting the thing home and set up was the next challenge.

The saw was packed in two boxes, one weighing 40+ pounds, the other 206. I'm not the guy I once was; I have arthritis and a couple herniated disks in my lower spine. A 206 pound dead lift is not going to happen. To plan ahead I threw together a sled - two 2X4s and a piece of OSB. The Grizzly guys loaded the saw (with a forklift) into the back of my RAV4.

The sled worked like a charm.

The saw was well packed and everything seemed undamaged.

I found the directions reasonably clear. I assembled the base and a mobile base.

Next I cleaned off the protective gunk on the table

Wood Flooring Floor Gas Hardwood

and gave it a good coat of wax.

The final step - putting the saw on the base - took a couple days to complete. I could lift the ting off the floor, but my back wasn't going to take trying to lift it as high as the mobile base. Saturday a friend - my son's father-in-law - came over and we hoisted it into place.

Great to have help! LOL!

I did my stuff on my woosie lonesome. First tool I purchased was the Grizzly saw. Used a come-a- long( it's been my friend many times.

Have fun! If you are not familiar with set up, grizzly has videos. There are some really good you tube videos as well.

You've got a mighty fine machine now! Carter's tool video w/Mr. Snodgrass who suggest lining the bottom of the blade's teeth gullet with the crown of the wheel's tire really does make a tremendous improvement over the usual way described. Watch that video. Great company and video. For me it resulted in NO drift at all with good sharp blades.

Had the same problem when I bought my Delta contractor saw several years ago. At 69 I not the man I use to be either. When I was laying out my shop I knew that it wouldn't be that long before I would be needing help lifting heavy items in the future so I planned for an electric hoist from HF to do all my lifting for me. Was able to lift the table saw and assemble it with out any help. Once assembled it just needed to be put it in it's proper location. Putting in the hoist has helped me out quite a lot over the past few years.

Could I see a close up of the guides and thrust bearings? As well as, the adjustments for them.

That is where the rubber meets the road, IMO
