bought a handful of cutoffs to try my first cutting board. even tho i'd never seen it in person, walnut was pretty easy to identify.
this bundle was supposed to be all hardwoods, suitable for cutting boards.
can anyone help me id this particular wood?

Oak.
I'd say white oak
White Oak
White oak has no open pores so it is suitable for cutting boards. With the rough cut ends pictured it is hard to see the pores if there are any.

If the wood is well dried, from the photo it appears to be Red Oak to me. It is almost definitely an oak of some variety.
