I am anxious to get this figured out since the only way this is going to fit into my garage is to get enough mobile velocity so that it can make it's own space!

I just bought an old Powermatic table saw and need a mobile base for it.

It is a pretty old one with an open bottom on the cabinet and the extended fence.

I found the Powermatic 2042335 base on Amazon:

But when I read the instruction manual from Powermatic they list the following part:

2042342 Mobile Base for Model 66, 10" Table Saw open stand

Can't find any place that sells that part number, so maybe is discontinued.

My questions/concerns are:

1. Will the newer base work with the older saw without modifications?

2. I am guessing I would just drop a piece of plywood into the base before the saw to close off the bottom?

3. The dust collection connector is pretty close to the ground so may require a few spacers to reduce the depth of the base?

4. I read Amazon reviews saying the Powermatic base is heavier duty than some of the others, is this the best base to go with? What about htc or jet?

The Powermatic base is definetly heavy duty. I have a 1988 PM 66 on a relatively new PM mobile base. I did the same as what you were mentioning, I put a piece of plywood in the base to close off the bottom so the dust collection works better. I also have the extension tables on the side and back of the saw, so I have the base that accomodates the side table. If you need the dimensions of the inside of the PM mobile base, drop me an email and I can measure it for you. I was amazed at how easily it moves around when you unlock the wheels despite the 600 lbs the saw weighs.

If the base is more like a contractor saw the HTC 3000 should work . Measure the base of your saw to see what you can adapt to it . That base you show may work , see if the dimensions work for your saw .

Are all PM mobile bases the same? Have a 66 w/ xtended table and want mobile base. Some pics show a PM base made with solid 1 piece steel - some with a 2 piece bolted setup?

The base they show on Amazon is one piece, but it is actually two pieces. It is still a solid base, and had no concerns about overall strength.

Powermatic used to have a different part number for the older 66 saws, although it appears the outside of the base has the same dimensions.

The concern I had is that there is roughly only a half inch between the floor and the bottom of the dust collector attachment, so you can't set the saw down into the opening of the base.

I wound up making a square frame to fit into the end of the base and attaching it to a piece of 3/4" plywood that went the full length of the base, then lag bolted the saw through the shelf. It added a little more solid and made a nice shelf under the saw.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the dust port being low on the cabinet. I didnt do the frame like you did, but I did the 3/4 inch piece of ply on the inside of the base and that did the trick and the dust port cleared the frame of the mobile base. I also put a triangle shaped piece of 3/4 inch ply in the corners where the table extension sits to give it more room and that works fine too.
