Murphey Bed

Well, I've started my project.

Got some poplar boards cut up today and after some final words of wisdom from my assistant in the shop (see photos) I assembled the base for the bed. Now I have to wait for the plywood to arrive from my lumber store. My assistant will be back tomorrow to check out my work.

Stay tuned…. I think this is going to be fun…

Murphey Bed

Ok…I'm half way through the instructions for the murphey bed and all is well in the construction business! The best thing I did was getting my friendly lumber yard to cut out the plywood pieces. The guy there cut everything to exact dimensions which made my task a lot easier. It was money well spent as anyone who's tried to cut a full 3/4" sheet to exact dimentions by themselves will attest…."it ain't easy!" So have a look at the pictures…they're self explanitory. The instructions and the video are excellent quality and take you baby-step by baby-step through the whole process. The bed gets heavier and heavier after each step, so make sure you do you're warm-up exercises first! I'm at the point of installing the hardware, then its on to the side panels….then, I would imagine, it's time for some paint before transfering into the house… I'm thinking of buying myself a paint sprayer to make the job look a little more professional and make it go quicker too.

I think I've just embedded a slide show…..oh well…should be interesting.

Interesting project, it is good to see that you are well supervised with someone who can do revisions on the fly LOL!

Hey, it looks like you got it all figured out. Watch when you get it in the house and try to attach those shocks. It will take 2 people to put them in place or you may find yourself buried inside….........LOL

Keep up the good work.

Smurf-phy bed completed

Well, it's complete. The murphey bed (better known as smurf-phy bed) is all done and being used. Sorry for the delay but there was an issue about the matteress. Only one "oopps" was encountered in the construction of it and it must have been my fault…..out by a quarter inch for one of the pistons, so had to reposition the plate ( no biggy !) Overall…..very happy with the results and impressed with the instructions that came with the hardware….they did an awesome job !
