I am now midway through a project to build a mission dining set. It will include 6 side chairs and two end chairs. I started with the chair construction using quartersawn white Oregon oak that I kiln dried myself. The chair design is a modern version of the arts and crafts style that is also very comfortable. The style was inspired by Kevin Rodel, Gustav Stickley, and Elbert Hubbard. I had fun designing them on Google Sketchup.

It is surprising how many hours it takes to build and sand chairs. Compared to tables it is a much greater time investment. Then again each chair has 40 mortises and 16 walnut pegs. The pictures don't show it well, but the front and rear aprons are arched, while the side aprons are straight with spindles.

They are looking Great! - I'm still digging for my design specs - I'll try and send them to you in the next day or so. Chairs ROCK and yours are coming along nicely - ah, yea, I can see you have a lotta time in those, but with that construction they will outlive you and generations after you! -

Did you use a shaper and pattern on the legs? - I used a router table and had a terrible time finding a pattern bit big enough, the one I ended up with is a monster, but worked well.

Thanks for the encouragement.
I used a hardboard template for the legs. I secured it to the workpiece with carpet tape, and trimmed them to final shape on the router table. I used a 2" long pattern bit from Rockler.
Thanks again,
-Willie

Very cool. I am the hook for a similar project. I finished the table a few years ago.
