I received this ad for the Milwaukee ROS on sale today and I can't figure out why everyone and his brother have soooooo many of them that are reconditioned and for sale. What is wrong with these ? What are the defects that people are returning so many of them ? Does anyone out there actually have one and how is it working for you ? I have used many Milwaukee tools in the past and they have been great . I've always wanted to own some of them , but now ….?

I was contradicted on this on a similar thread a few days ago.

Hey Dusty,

I usually go to amazon.com an type in a model number then look at the user reviews. I found only reconditioned sanders like this but people aren't happy with them. It also seems that the reconditioning is if it turns on the ship it. People getting these still have the issues that the original owner had and you can read about them here.

Only three reviews but they might be telling. I also have an old but heavy milwaukee skill saw and a great sawsall. Good stuff. Industrial quality I'd say. If you're in the market for a new Random Orbital sander, I can't say enough good stuff about the Bosch. $69 at Lowes. It does a fantastic job and actually collects the dust! I reviewed it earlier here. Among other smaller jobs it sanded 8 hrs/day for two straight weeks and it's still kickin dust.

Yes sir we both see the deception but it is legal.
I have often wondered if the remaining stock of a slow mover/dog was not deliberately repackaged and sold off to non registered companies that do not have the franchise?
It does happen in my industry.
The other "sleight of hand" is to bulk package items without the brand name at lower wholesale pricing to non franchised distributors.

You certainly have to be on your toes today to make a decent purchase.

I read the same reviews prior to posting this item . They seem to be either perfect or junk…..My real question is to those out there that have actually had to return one of these sanders and why , or kept it because it was perfect . I am quite happy with my PC ROS's at this time , but if the price is right , I might be persuaded to try a different brand at some point…...maybe the next time I run low on sandpaper I might start out fresh with a whole new machine ….LOL….I'll keep the Bosch in mind at that price , Dan : )

I had one of these … vibration was terrible and I found it hard to control. Gave it to my son-in-law and bought one of the new Porter-Cable low profile jobs.

There was a time when Milwaukee was a top-of-the-line tool manufacturer, but you can't bank on that anymore.

I've had good luck with my PC ROS, and with various reconditioned tools I've bought (a Bosch palm router and a PC framing nailer). I have to admit, though, that complexity is one of the things I consider when trying to decide whether to go new or reconditioned….

I've had pretty good luck with Milwaukee in general…I don't have the sander…but they have a great warranty (5 years). There are dogs by every manufacturer unfortunately….so you are doing the best thing by researching the item before comitting to the buy…looks like they either have a manufacturing bug here if those are getting reconditioned alot…or I would agree with Bob….that they are running a ploy in order to retain their "brand" identification…the "reconditioned" idea allows them to do a price cut without making it look like the brand is slow moving or the price is too high. They have all kinds of tools to distract consumers - like using 29.95 instead of 30.00….in some consumer's minds the 29.95 seems like 20 bucks…whereas the 30.00 seems alot higher….it's just psychological…but it works quite well.

I actually purchased the exact same Milwaukee sander NEW from Amazon for just over $20. I have used it a lot and for 20 bucks it's not bad at all.
In general I have found Milwaukee tools to be undereated, their air nail guns, drills/drivers and routers are awesome, and of course their router bits are good because they are Freud's, but cost less.
