Milling logs into lumber

Well, hello.

This is my first post here, and I'd like to take the opportunity to say hello.

I've just finished setting up a bandsaw to mill small logs into lumber, and I'm interested in layout strategies that the rest of you use.

I have a sled set up, and a riser block. The setup gives me an operating length of 6'-1", and a diameter (or height) of 10-3/4".

SO.

If I have a log that comes in at 10", since I can't use the center of it, it looks to me like the largest piece I can get out of it is a 1×6, and usually it's a 1×4.

What strategies (layouts) do you guys use to mill logs?

What layout would you use to fit a 24" log into a 11" saw?
