Have any of you ever been where this woodworker is with his shop? This guy is in Ukraine, and on trips to Russia with my wife visiting her family and friends over the years, I've had the pleasure of meeting several woodworkers that were no different them this guy. I admire them. They have a woodworking will and find a way.

Never been there but I understand the motivation to build bigger and better tools using whatever resources are affordable. Over time, I believe shop-made (or modified) equipment can be superior in many ways to mass-produced equipment as long as one keeps looking for ways to improve the designs.

The biggest advantage of shop-built items is that sourcing replacement parts is rarely an issue.

Improvise, adapt and overcome. Pounded into me as a young troop. Story of my life ever since.

I do woodworking as my day job and don't have a lot of extra cash laying around for fancy tools. I'm certainly not poor and I've purchased a few nice tools over the years. But, I don't have racks of high dollar stuff, nor do I have all the fancy tools I'd love to own. I'm just a woodworker trying to eke out a living.

But, I do see some guys making some fancy stuff with a lot less than I have!

The biggest improvements I've made in my work over the years hasn't really come with buying a new tool… It's come with paying more attention to accuracy and detail.

I've noticed people who come from war torn countries show much ingenuity in the projects they post on U tube, especially from Russia and Asian countries.
