I have an older delta 36-600 table saw and Ive made inserts for it before but Id like to make one with a riving knife or splitter. So I'm looking for some good ideas on a safe way add that feature. one of the issues I think will be that their is an 1/8" recess around the rim of the insert and below that there is more space. Any ideas? Thanks

Make a blank, fit it to the saw. Then raise the blade.
Then lower the blade, put another throat plate in,
then using the rip fence extend the first throat
insert by about 1.5". Make a thin piece of wood to
wedge, glue in the back of the slot where it won't
interfere with the blade at highest setting. Ok,
then take down the sides of the splitter by a tiny
but on each face, leaving full thickness where it fits
in the slot. The leading edge can be rounded over
and the splitter waxed.

I have made several large riving knives from old saw blades.I simply marked them out and cut with an angle grinder with appropriate blade fitted the small angle grinde 4.5 inch works best.Alistair
