Hello Everyone,

My name is Philip; I am a new community manager joining the site and working alongside Cricket.
Recently, VerticalScope acquired Lumberjocks.com from Escalate Media and we have taken over all webmaster duties for the Escalate Media team on Lumberjocks.com. We have been working very closely with the site staff on making sure this transition has been seamless and positive for everyone. The organization and leadership you are used to on the site every day will still be here as well as the spirit of the community everyone has helped to develop and maintain. There are very few changes expected to happen over the next few weeks while we work to settle in. To give you all a little idea of what we do and why we are here I have broken down some of the basic questions that I am sure most of you have.

Who are you, VerticalScope?

VerticalScope is a company of enthusiasts that supports both enthusiasts and professionals. We manage multiple online communities that work to engage users with a broad spectrum of themes and interests. Our focus it to continue the steady growth of these communities while working to maintain the passion and spirit that make each one unique. We know that working in the trades is not just a job but a big part of your lifestyle as well. From community management to the tech end of things our team brings the resources and experience to help the site continue to grow by raising the quality of the user experience.

What are our intentions?

We bring reliability, support and the infrastructure needed to ensure that the community will be around for years to come. It's our goal to work with the community and the board staff to help provide the resources required to give this community a broader reach. This works to attract new members to better the overall knowledge shared in the community. Over time the community grows further and becomes an even better resource of information on the subjects you love so much.

Will leadership change?

Cricket and Juan M will remain your primary community managers here. Continuity is an important focus for us; YOU as the membership of this community have helped to set the positive tone. New members are made to feel welcome and should want to continue to contribute to the growth of the site. The same Mods and Admins you have grown to appreciate will not change and will still be here to help you and keep the site clean and free of distractions. The VerticalScope team are primarily here to make sure the lights stay on and there are as few bumps in the road as possible. We recognize that each community is unique and having respect for this is paramount to us. Since the beginning the moderator team has established the unique rules and regulations that will continue. The community has also established a strong reputation that makes the site inviting and engaging to all users new and more experienced.

What am I here for?

My primary role is working with Cricket and Juan as the technical contact for the site. The community and moderation staff built the foundation and keep the roof from falling, I am part of the team keeping the lights on inside while we all enjoy the exchange of information and ideas. We will be on the forum checking in daily to make sure regular maintenance is all taken care of and keep things running smoothly from behind the scenes.

I do look forward to getting to know you all and this unique community better.

Thanks,

Philip

I have been able to spend some time getting to know the folks from VerticalScope. I think y'all are going to love this change because it means we will have more resources and support for the things we need as a community.

Besides, y'all are still stuck with me. ;-)

Sure would have been nice of you to have edited this posting, which clearly you have used before. I assume someone has told you that this is not a "trades-only" site, and probably most of us are hobbyists, albeit with many professionals in our ranks. We certainly hope that you won't adopt a "trades-only" membership criteria.

Verified Trade Professionals???

This is a site devoted to woodworking and has since its inception welcomed anyone who was interested in woodworking. If limited to professionals, this site would lose 99% of it's members, including some of the most accomplished and skilled woodworkers…

I understand the desirability of "vetting" new users to screen out spammers. Hopefully this process will not significantly impact the current users nor discourage new users who are not "Verified Trade Professionals"...

Mess with Cricket, and we might have to have our woman of international intrigue do unspeakable things to you along with throwing wood chips at ya. Just kidding.

Hope you enjoy your stay Philip. Don't worry to much about the crazies here.

Thanks for the introduction. While you're settling in, please consider making the ads less intrusive so fewer of us feel compelled to use ad blockers. When I got a new computer a couple months ago, I was oblivious to the fact that I hadn't yet installed an ad blocker, until I tried using LumberJocks. I was blown away by how obnoxious the ads were, and I immediately installed AdBlock. If, for some reason, I had to stop using an ad blocker on this site, I'd stop using the site.

Welcome to LJs Phillip,Change is good at least it has been with Cricket. I'm hoping you can install new incentives for long-term members, maybe something like $1.00 for every comment over 100 comments :)

I think he just used a canned "fill in the blanks statement" and pasted it in to introduce himself. I couldn't imagine them dumping all the non "Verified Trade Professionals.

I would like to welcome VerticalScope and comment on the following:

"Membership will continue to be vetted and only allow verified Trade Professionals to maintain accounts on the site."

"No worries y'all. All woodworkers will be continue to be welcome here!"

I hope this stays true and down the road, who is allowed to join and who is allowed to keep their membership isn't changed. I believe most members here aren't Trade Professionals but avid woodworking hobbyists as has been stated earlier. Since I've been a member here, this has been the case and that's why I hold this site in such high regard. I would hate to think that one day I can't log in anymore because my professional life doesn't involve working with wood, only my personal life.
