I'm looking for buddies here on lumberjocks that can guide me in a quest
to build canoes. Here are the designs I'm favoring right now.

I'm ever so slowly putting together a woodwork shop in 1/2 of my garage. I have
been a canoe paddler for 52 years however and I will find a way to build some
canoes in my shop. As of now I want to try both 'stitch and clue' and 'skin on frame'
constuction.

For skin on frame my choice of designs are from Platt Monfort.

SnowShoe 14

and

SnowShoe 16

For stitch and glue, I favor the plans of Eskimo Tom.

I expect I'll find some boat builders here at Lumberjocks.

There's a few on here, but you would get much better response on the woodenboat forums.

http://forum.woodenboat.com/

Might even find other people that have built the same models and can give you help/tips.

I've got a Shenandoah Whitehall skin on frame rowboat that needs built this summer, myself.

This is why I love this site! Have had a stack of Old growth cedar boards follow me around for 20 years waiting to be transformed into a strip canoe, shop is getting close to start this project so thanks for links and another shove!

This is the page for the boat I'm building. They have a canoe and a bunch of kayaks as well. I originally wanted to build the Ruth wherry, but the lower freeboard/narrower hull/stability meant that it won't be as nice in rougher waters on Puget Sound or some of the windy mountain lakes.

Most are non-traditional Skin-on-frame which means that they use fewer plywood frames rather than more traditional steam bent wood frames.

Great Link "J". Went there had a look around and found a Video on YouTube of a guy building a Cedar Strip in 9 Minutes! (Yes there's a catch) Beautiful Canoe!

Have a "Look See" HERE

Also a whole pile of other Good Videos down the right side. Most of them Tutorials.

Enjoy All: Rick (Thanks a Bunch "J" Added to "Favorites", For Sure)
