A friend wanted a simple coffee bar. From how he explained it, I figured a potting station would work out great. Something basic. 2x4's and 1x4's. I threw one together on TinkerCAD. But also wanted to see what other ideas were out there.

Anything similar or have feedback?

aahhhh okay, thanks - I guess I'm kinda out of the loop for when it comes to the 21st Century.
I think you're with it. Hipsters just add bar to make it a "thing". I just don't know if it's overkill the way I threw it together or if there's a better way with different wood types.

It's just like at a car dealership, hospitals or workplace. I'm sure these setups in your day. ;)

Except influencers and interior designers tagged it "farmhouse style" and stuck it inside their homes.

I like the above added base and I think you top shelf should be solid to avoid spills dripping to the next layer. Maybe even a rim to completely contain them? You might put tile on it.....some of those 12" X 18" tiles would work. A drawer under the top would be handy for things that just don't look or do well setting out.

Just get on marketplace or Craigslist and get a old bottom kitchen cabinet, dresser, vanity cabinet, hutch or potting bench and paint it whatever color you want. That’s the fastest and cheapest option.

Me, I would rethink your design a bit. Maybe you and your friend are young and agile. I am entering my Creaky Years, and I like stuff at work level. A lower shelf or two are fine, I would also want an upper shelf that holds the most-used stuff.

Also consider ease of cleanup. Eschew cracks and crannies that trap crud, and provide nice cleanable surfaces that can handle being wet. Construction lumber with a durable poly top coat should be fine,or a hunk of melamine (ew ugly), or a nice bit of regular kitchen counter top.

I think a table under some wall shelves is a more flexible design, but people want what they want. What if you offer floating shelves? Floating shelves are in :)

Don't forget the holy grail of hipster farmhouse style: pallet wood. Because real barn wood is too expensive, of course.

I think a baker's rack style would be cool for this too. Smaller footprint because it's more vertical. Basically what you already have, but with a few shelves up high.
