ok so as i was going thro the forums, actully looking for wood/tools to buy i ran across 1800 bft of spalted maple in VT (and yes i think i shorted out my keyboard drooling) and hickory in CT as i recall, so i decided to look thru the forum and do a dearch for minnesota and well u guessed it, you have no ability to search thru just 1 forum, in fact no search in the whole forum, with the exeption of google that will find me every link i never cared about and most of which not on LB and not typically anywhere close to the subject im looking for
thats my 1st complaint
my 2nd would be i have a bunch of maple slabs that i cant actually do anything with since they are rough sawn so ill look for someone on LJ willing to either let me rent some time with his jointer, or rent his services to joint my wood, how ever i realized fairly quickly that without going thru every name on LB to find someone from MN im kinda screwed there too
so 1st suggestion how about a way to list the state at the very least of where the stuff is for sale, and the 2nd would be how about a state listing locations of members and such, as a webmaster of about 5 sites and of my own and many that i host to i know its not a tough thing to do and i think it would help LBers get together without feeling like stalkers
hopefully youll take these items into consideration, thanks bob, from minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes and no cool wood..lol

The problem, as I see it, is that your post contained a fatal lack of cake.

tho i suppose expanding on the Workshop section into a directory of some kind would be interesting.

for now, you're best bet is to just post something like "hey i'm in such-and-such town, I've got a stack of maple I need to clean up, can anybody help me out with that".
Even with a directory not everybody who could help would sign up, and not everybody who would sign up would be able to help.

I like cake… I live in chanhassen uh, MN. But I don't have a jointer, it is on my list though. You can check my7 buddies page, I have a couple of Minnesotans in the list, just send them a PM, and see.
Wish I did have a jointer, then it would not be a problem. How thick are the slabs, maybe you can rout them, or build a simple Tablesaw jig, they work really well if you keep it tight to the fence.
Good luck.
P.S. Almost had my wife letting me get one 2 weeks ago, but it just didn't happen.
Oh well.

You are absolutely right! And that spalted maple just to the north, well now!!

And hey, careful where you swim in Minnesota this summer. Just saw a show on TV where they were looking for some monster fish and were at a lake in Minnesota, and the sonar picked up a 5 to 6 foot muskie! That would be a world record!!! :)

I don't remember what lake it was, but they had a whole bunch of scientists and others all over it, along with an underwater rover, sonar and all kinds of other equipment.
