G'day
My first post in this forum
I bought this large piece of Huon Pine and want to make good use
of it

Its 2" or 50 mm thick
I know the easy answer is another coffee table , but wish to find another use for it

There are a lot of very
experienced and talented woodworkers on here so maybe it may pay for me to ask for different ideas

First off welcome to the forum and hope its the first of many posts to come!

First thought was a table, but how about ripping it and making a couple mantles for mounting?

or

Rip it and make some live edge free standing shelves on the wall.

or

Make it like a piece of art and hang it.

or

Rip it and book match the pieces and make it tops for a hutch or set of drawers etc.

....just a few. Good luck and post what ever you make, nice piece of wood there

When I look at this piece I see a large clock for some reason. Perhaps route or inlay the numbers/roman numerals using bronze or copper….just an idea though.
#! Hello and a Welcome to this asylum! We all are sawdust addicts!

It can be made into a porch bench for enjoying the front/back yard.

Spar varnish and legs will do for that!

A little forming with disk grinder, hand chisels, or sanders can make it very comfortable to.

It could become a mirror, a clock, a sign, a . . . .

You could flatten one edge, keep the rest live and mount it on a hall wall with only two front legs.

I like the second image with more live edge on it. I would also say keep it full 2" thickness, IMO. That adds to the "beefy" feel of the piece.

The second image almost looks like a fish/critter (SHARK?) heading from left to right… If you play with staining (darken an eye to match the open snarl/grin), you could actually create what is already there, but more dramatically… IMO. The grain pattern appears to show the speed of this "shark". Just an idea…

Nice figuring.
Welcome to Lumberjocks

For me, pieces like that I set where I can see it often. Sooner or later it will tell you what it wants to be.
Welcome to Ljs
I think I would have trouble thinking what I would make from it too If I didn't want to make it into some kind of table.
The shape reminds me of a chair back?

The other thing that comes to mind is a small bench or stool.
I wood save for a nice Krenov style cabinet.
There looks like enough for a set of left and right doors and back panels.

Thanks again
Your combined ideas have given me some options to consider
If I do the base choice and make a coffee table then the type of thing in this photo would be suited

Furniture Table Wood Rectangle Chair
