A hot deal is a significant discount (including shipping) on DIY or workshop related tools, machines, clothing, books, lumber, or general interest items. Use your discretion. If you think we would be interested, post it. Please include a link, if online, a description, and the price. The discount amount in % or $$ is appreciated but not required.

Examples:
  • eBay Buy It Now (BIN)
  • Amazon sales, Deal of the Day (DOTD)
  • Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD)
  • Sales, Coupons, Coupon Codes
  • Lowes/HD closeouts
  • Craigslist finds
  • Black Friday

NOT hot deals:
20% off HF coupon, because they are available all the time.
Cheaply made tools.
eBay auctions, because we don't know the final price until the auction ends.
Your favorite or most useful tool.
Amazon "Just Launched" sellers with very low prices (scammer)
Amazon sellers that ask you to email first (scammer)

  • What is an Amazon Warehouse Deal? It is an item with damaged packaging or the item itself may be damaged. It could have been dropped off a truck, punched with a fork truck, opened for a photograph, or a customer return. They are sold as used and the manufacturer warranty may be void. Most of the AWD I've bought were only damaged packaging but you are taking a risk. Note: just because they are sold as "used" does not mean they are actually used. Some customers scam Amazon by returning junk instead of the real product and Amazon may ship that wrong item to you.

  • Amazon '2 Left' Deals Occasionally there will be a super low price on a new item that says "Only 2 left in stock". Buy one and the last one jumps back to full price or you can buy both at the reduced price. For example you might see a $50 widget for $8, 2 Left. If you buy one, the last one jumps back to $50, or you can buy both for $8 each ($16 total).

  • Once in a great while there will be "1 left" and Amazon decides they want it gone and it will drop in price until someone buys it.

Its getting hot in here…. we need a 2.0…
Every time Rockler has a clamp sale they go on back order.

I ordered 6 12 in clamps. I tried the Bessey UNIKLAMP 12 inch clamps before and those are trash.

Ben
4 snagged! THANKS!

Ben
I remember buying Bessey 50in parallel clamps at HD for $40 each a few weeks ago. That s only $10 more than the Bora Portamate ones and I believe the quality is much better, judging by the Amazon reviews.

- EJ
+1 on quality. I have Jet, Bessy, Irwin, Bora, and Bessy uniklamp parallel clamps and that is the order they stack up quality wise. If anyone wants clamps I recommend keeping eyes open for the BOGO deal on Jets from Acme. They will run it again.

Charmin $10.50 a roll…

If you want more free plans go to woodsmithshop.com (different url) you can download any project from the last three seasons of the show for free. This includes the bridal chest.

Love Woodsmith BTW. I was able to tour August Home Publishing in Des Moines a few years ago with a professional society (STC). Great bunch of Iowa guys living the dream.

I always wonder what it is about a track saw from a component and build standpoint that makes it 4-5 times more expensive than a standard circular saw. Obviously a lot of differences, but 5x the cost? Maybe all the tool makers (really only a few parent companies) decided this would be one of their cash cows.

- AM420
Market pricing. The bar was set by Festool. Cost and price have NOTHING to do with one another.
I pony ed up the cash for a Makita track saw. Holy cow it makes sheet good work a breeze.

Special buy of the day at BORG
After watching Matt Estlea s approach to sharpening I really liked the idea, but am a weekend guy so not buying a Tormek because not a production shop (and budget). Found the Wen Wet/Dry Sharpening on Amazon for $150.

Someone in woodworking discord channel pointed out that Home Depot sells them for $113.30 with free shipping.
WEN 10 in. 2-Direction Water Cooled Wet/Dry Sharpening System

They were out of stock briefly but just got the restock notification and now that I ve ordered mine, I m posting here.

A warning to anyone considering the WEN sharpening system: the stone is REALLY soft.. probably not close to what you would get with a TORMEK. (I do not own the TORMEK). I use the WEN primarily for sharpening turning gouges (with a TORMEK jig) and I find the stone will very quickly dish out. This may not happen if you are sharpening chisels and plane irons.
Wen is having a clearance sale through Walmart.com

Wen Tools

Many of the tools are 25% of retail. I bought the WEN 10-Amp 5-Inch Variable Speed Portable Band Saw for Metal for $31.01 - $103 at Lowes.

If anyone out there happens to live in the Chicagoland area.. maybe you already know this.. but there is a guy in the warranty department at the distribution center who sells WEN refurbs off the dock in Elgin. Watch the Chicago suburbs Craigslist if you are interested. Have to pick up, no shipping. He used to sell anything, even brand new items like the standing drill press I picked up for $299 with a reeves drive and DRO.
Wonder if he still has a job!

- AM420
It's all legit. You get a sales draft from.. I think "Great Lakes Distributing" (the company importing Orange/Yellow WEN branded tools from China)... and everything. Even a 30 day warranty.
This goes on sale a lot, but with the inflation we are all seeing, this seems like a good price. It comes with the tables, extra knives, and stand.
