The people who purchased it, demolished it to build a new home.

I donated a small end table to a charity auction. They put a lamp on it and sold both for $10.00. I dread walking into a thrift store and seeing a piece I built buried under boxes of old cloths.

One man's treasure is another man's trash. That's how you get a Sam Maloof Rocker for $50.00. Customer buys it for $8,000.00, then passes away. Stupid … I mean, uninformed survivors don't know what it is, and sell it fo $50.00 at a garage sale.

To get a "Dennis Mitchell" original with a cheap lamp on it for $10.00, what a deal.

Even worse - I sold a home in Canada in 1988 for CDN$450,000. In 1989 the same home with no improvements sold for CDN$1.2 million.

But here's the rest of the story.

This home was in Vancouver's highest priced community, but just 50 yards away was a railway track that had once been an interurban tram line. It was only used a couple of times each week to move small trains from the city center to the south of the city - this never bothered us in the least.

When we sold, there was a proposal that had been in place for a few years to upgrade the line to light rapid transit elevated mono rail.

Shortly after we sold, the lobbying of the 'connected' citizens of this upper class community was successful in getting the government to declare the rail right-of-way as 'strip park'.

Probably. As we Aussies say "Goodonya, Mate!"

It makes an interesting conversation piece, but I really am not fussed about it. What I never had I didn't lose. There are many things in life that could have been different - but it's absolutely pointless going there.
