Handworks 2022? 2023?

So after Handworks was nixed in 2020 for understandable reasons with Covid making travel and gathering in large crowds impractical, it was rescheduled for the first weekend in September of this year, 2022. I know at least a half a dozen other Lumberjocks who all had lodging and travel arrangements made.

So one of them was booking a flight this morning and went to the Handworks website, and now it says it's September of 2023?!? No e-mail telling folks who had registered. No nothing, just "we hope you come back to the website soon and find out you need to cancel your rental house/hotel/plane tickets/car rental in time to hopefully recover at least a partial refund."

Total dick move. I was looking forward to hanging out with folks for the weekend and seeing some nice tools. Had figured to spend a pretty tidy sum of money to support the vendors as well. I had no problem when they sent out an e-mail to let us know it was cancelled due to Covid in 2020. But this is BS and I'm not sure I'd go now if it was being held in my neighbor's back yard.

So PSA, if you've made arrangements for travel/accomodations to the show in September, you should probably un-make them. I figured if the event organizers can't be bothered to let folks know, I'd post a PSA.

That's a shame. I'm glad I hadn't booked anything early for it, but screwing over many who did isn't right. I've been to the last two handworks and they were both incredible… maybe we need a new event with new organizers. Ideally in CO so I wouldn't have to drive as far lol.
I was going to drive from VA to Iowa just so I didn't have to worry about getting purchases onto an airplane or shipped back home. I guess now I'll spend my tool money on Ebay instead…
Went to the first one, it was okay. Seeing this and glad I'm not one getting stuck with cancellations. What a d*ck move by the organizers, wow.
That's unfortunate. I was looking forward to showing off all of the corn in IA, especially to Kenny.
oh all a bit tacky makes you almost think of doing other handworks
As of now I'm out $697. I messaged the air bnb I rented for six of us to go, about a full refund or at least partial so hopefully I get something back. I definitely would have rather spent that on some tools. I'm not going in 2023 if it happens, I'm over it with handworks this is the second time. First time I was able to get all my money back but this air bnb is different than the last one.

Maybe a little "face planing" eh? ;-)
I still hadn't registered for 2022, and I won't be for 2023 yet, either. One, they have it in the fall, when there's usually a football game filling hotel rooms, and two, covid still ain't over. It might be in 2023, but attending a show with thousands of other people sharing the air seems… unwise.
I keep telling you Dave, if you quit walking around kissing everybody you see, you won't get sick as often.
I don't think it's the kissing, Kenny, so much as the licking.

;-)

May want to see if it was cancelled due to covid, some lodging has a special carve out for that. Of course the jerks may not have listed a reason either.
Not only did they not list a reason but they didn't even acknowledge that it was previously scheduled for 2022 and had been pushed out a year. And there is no contact information for any organizer on the website.
I was intrigued to the extent that my budget would allow it as a side trip if I were already planning something else not too terribly far away. This has solidified my resolve, I'll only be going with a $5000 gift card (after tax) and being picked up in a G5. If there going to make it hard for folks who already want to go, I'll return the favor in making it hard to acquire this potential customer.
Reading this I too would call them an asshat.org type of situation.

However my goofy mind thinks of things sometimes. Has this canx with NO warning been verified through them, or is it possible some dunce mistyped the year, and meant to say 2022?

Before stopping your scheduled rooming, maybe verify they did in fact reschedule the year. I totally agree if they did that is a dooshmove.
It used to be Sept 2 and 3 of 2022. Now it's 1 &2 of 2023.

It's definitely been changed.

Yeah, I posted and immediately saw your post, was coming back to say KTALGSTO
Might be extreme but why not?
Biggest issue is the complete lack of notice to those of us that had signed up for notifications.
With pretty much every other conference, event, show, etc. back to normal Covid is no longer a valid excuse and as a result refunds are harder to obtain as well. Hopefully airlines, lodging, and etc. will still work with you and do the right thing. In many cases demand is greater than supply so they are able to rebook someone else at a higher rate. I certainly wouldn't book anything in advance for 2023 based on their track record.
