Hi Gang,

I've been slowing gearing up for my start back into woodworking and was thinking of making a blog for it.

Then I found LumberJocks and decided to hang my hat here.

Great site! I look forward to contributing what I can and I hope to learn a lot.

I live in Alberta but am moving to Texas later this year. I'm working in the South China Sea right now so not much to do but make lists and plan the shop…

Tell us a bit more about yourself, what type of woodworking have you done or you would like to do.

Planning will help you decide what you really enjoy building when the time is right whether it's,furniture, trinket boxes, wooden toys etc, plan on buying the basic tools ,then the size of the shop, the whole process is all exciting.

I grew up carving birds, making toy cars, etc with my Grandfather. Lots of tree felling and log splitting with my Dad.

The last 10 years have been all about home construction, deck building, anything made from 2×4's. For a small break 2 years ago I built a large outdoor table out of left over fencing material that came out great! I've also built a sawhorse and other items like that while out at sea.

I've also restored a number of rifles so have some finishing experience from that.

There are a few things I want to build:

1. The shop itself. Workbench, toolbox, jigs and tools.

For some the shop is a means to an end. I've always thought about it as an end to itself. I'd like to work primarily with hand tools but won't be kicking my power tools out of the garage! I've been considering a shopsmith so that I have access to occasional use power tools but without the footprint. I will however be getting a large bandsaw for resawing.

2. Ukulele's

I've been playing the uke for years and have read a number of books on guitar building. I also lurk at a few different luthier forums, most notably the one at UkuleleUnderground. I feel that I have a good overview of the processes but haven't yet had the space to proceed with this.

3. Other home projects. Mostly outdoor furniture.

We are in the process of moving to Houston and I am looking specifically for a place with an actual 3 car garage. I plan to wall off the third bay (if not already done) and fully dedicate that space. So I'll be looking at roughly 200ft2.
