I am looking at building a set of night stands. I have an idea of what I want to build but I have never built anything with drawers. So I would like some good sources where I could look at projects so I can get an idea how to build the drawer and how to build it into the night stand. I have seen plenty of nightstands but I want some sources that actually show woodworking projects so I can get a look at actually making the drawer from a "builders" perspective vs the consumers perspective. A drawer is a drawer. A box that slides into a box.

Can you draw sketches of the side view and front view of the idea, with dimensions penciled in? From there, add some detail dimensions and you'll end up with your drawer opening.

If you use metal slides, your drawer will be 1" narrower than the opening.

Plan for the box to be 1" shorter than the opening, a quarter at the bottom and 3/4 at the top.

Build the box and add a front.

This will help you develop your drawer "style". Build one out of scrap wood first, the whole nightstand if you want, and you'll have fun and learn a whole lot of stuff.

There is a number of drawer methods, the choice depends on the tooling you have and your knowledge / comfort level with them and the method process. Some here do the most amazing hand cut dovetails. Yes they work with tools that you can not plug into the wall or charger. Machine dovetails, box joint, rabbits, etc, saw one guy used biscuits, I guess because he bought one and had to do something with it.
