My mom's house is full of cabinet doors that were made in a Southwestern style and its time for a change. Replacing the cabinets is certainly an option and just replacing the doors alone would work too. But what if we could use our woodworking skills to modify the doors instead. In our situation, this turned out to be the perfect solution. So join me as I show you how to carefully modify and refinish my mom's hickory doors.

I like the chihuahua mug almost as much as the doors!

This does point out that buying a quality material door in the first place helps out.

Nice job Mark, thanks for the tips. I agree with you about Timbermate, I think it is the best wood filler, bar none.

Mark, did you ever use Enduro before general finishes bought them? If so, how do you like the way the general flows?

I scraped & sanded for hours and I still didn't come up with that beautiful hickory under my white melamine cabinets, am I doing something wrong? Great video Marc.

Ken - I actually never had a chance to use Enduro prior to the GF acquisition.

Tinnman - haha. Keep sanding! If you don't find beautiful hickory then at least you got rid of the melamine. :)

I find that spraying is way harder than brushing it on.

Marc Nice work it looks great! I'm sure Mom love them. I recieved my and have been using my Earlex 5500 and love it. I bought after watching your video on it. Thx. When your spraying General Finishes Enduro how low do you set your spray pattern?

Nice work.

Glad you like the Earlex Ken! As for the spray pattern, if I'm not mistaken, the Earlex doesn't have a spray pattern adjustment. All you can do is vary the tip size and the flow of liquid. I did use a 1.5mm tip though.

Oh no worries. That's just something that's hard to quantify in words. I don't want the finish to run on the sides or puddle on the top. I have it set so that after two rounds of passes on the top, I get a pretty substantial layer of finish, but no puddling or running.

Thanks and sorry the videos aren't working. Problem is, there really isn't anything unusual about my videos. Internet video is in such a state of flux these days with HTML5 on its way in and Apple's war against Flash. So trying to embed video that is compatible on all systems means that it doesn't take long before our browsers and plugins are out of date. So I would recommend installing the latest Flash for your browser and of course make sure you're using the latest version of your browser. Trying a different browser is an alternative solution. Also, you might try pressing play, then letting the video buffer for a while.

And finally, if none of that works, you can always use the download links above the video. Left click will typically open the video in your browser. This may take a long time to load. So try right-clicking instead and saving the video directly to your desktop. This way once it fully downloads, you can view it at your leisure and it will even be at a higher quality.
