Fein removes tub surround

I had been holding off buying this tool for several years. Recently one of my customers in whose house I had installed a fiberglass tub surround had a crack appear in the soap dish of the unit. The company sent someone out to fix the crack as the surround was still within the twenty year guarantee period. The repair failed within a year and the company at its option decided to replace the complete surround. When I install these surrounds I use twice the amount of adhesive that is supplied by the manufacturer of the surround. I dreaded taking this surround off as I could picture most of the walls comin down with the fiberglass. Time to purchase the fein. This tool, using the scraper blade cut through the adhesive like a knife through butter and the fiberglass surround was removed completly with no damage to the underlying wall. the new surround was installed the same day and I saved at least a day of scraping the adhesive off with a torch and putty knife. Great tool.

I have been considering this tool for its sanding ability especially in areas that a orbital sander can't go. Your comments are much appreciated and helpful. Det. Dad, Madison, WI

I have looked and looked at this but what always stops me is the price tag. $400 is insulting to me. I'm guessing what ever patents Fein had has run out because this tool has competition on the market now and Fein's price gouging has become obvious. I'll be watching to see what people think of the identical Dremel version of this too for $100.

Harbor Freight has one for $40 but….. its harbor freight. How long will it last? but at least its orange!
